Every single day, I find stuff on our driveway that does not belong to us! I think some of it is thrown by late night passers-by who think nothing of throwing their cans, coffee cups, and onigiri wrappers on our street. I find all sorts of stuff on our neighbors properties too on my way down the street to Inokashira park.
Now, there's not much I can do about that except place a large wooden fence around our property, which we are actually very seriously considering at this point.
Another reason we find our place littered is that right across the street from us, behind our lovely neighbors, there is an apartment building. Their garbage sorting ability is inexistent, and the door to that place is always wide open. Take a look at this place:
Same place, different day:
I am getting really upset.
The firm that manages this place is not in Mitaka, so I cannot even go and complain in person. But I am planning to go see the city office to find out what sort of options we have.
For anyone planning to build, make sure to check out the neighboring houses to see if they are rentals, and if so, check out their garbage sorting area. Also, don't buy first row on a highly transient street! Otherwise, just build a large wall!
When we were building, we thought of leaving the property open for easier car parking, even though we didn't have a car at the time. We thought this might be a good asset to have for when we sell the house. However, we have since opted against getting a car and to ride our bikes. So now, the open space is really annoying.
We're now looking at ways to close off the front completely...
